    University student stabbed to death by carjackers

    A final year student of the University of Calabar who works part-time as a Bolt driver was on Friday night killed by suspected carjackers at the Mary Slessor roundabout, Calabar, Cross River.

    Sources informed that the deceased, identified as Francis Atabi, had given the two suspected car snatchers a ride around 8pm when the incident occurred.

    The suspects were said to have tried to snatch the Toyota Corolla vehicle from the driver while on their way to their supposed destination but the resistance put up by the 25-year-old final year student of Education and Political Science, ignited the rage of the suspects who stabbed him multiple times and also tied a rope round his neck.

    In the ensuing melee and struggle, the driver was said to have rammed his car into a security man when he lost control of driving.

    As at the time of filing this report, the security man was also reported to have died at the hospital where he was rushed to in Calabar.

    Meanwhile, the Cross River State Police Command have confirmed the incident and said investigation had already commenced into the matter.

    Spokesperson of the command, SP Irene Ugbo, who disclosed this, assured that no stone would be left unturned in a bid to bring the perpetrators to book.

    The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a four-man armed robbery gang that fled with $11 million in Abeokuta, the state capital.

    According to reports, the armed robbers, who were dressed in black T-shirts and jeans, with black masks covering their faces, robbed a Hausa trader in a Toyota Venza car in Oke Sokori, Abeokuta North Local Government Area.Learn More
