Gauteng: Jaws of life used to free driver following collision

Gauteng: At 12H20 Thursday afternoon Netcare 911 responded to a collision on Heidelberg Road in City Deep Johannesburg.

Reports indicate that a bakkie and truck were involved in a collision.

Medics assessed the scene and found that an adult male from the bakkie had sustained moderate injuries and was mechanically entrapped. The patient was extricated by Fire Ops SA using hydraulic tools.

Once treated and stabilised, the patient was transported by Netcare 911 ambulance to hospital for further care.

The northbound lanes of the N3 highway near the Vaaldraai/Vereeniging interchange have been closed after a crash involving two trucks on Thursday morning.

The N3 toll concession announced that a serious crash involving two trucks has been reported on the northbound lanes to Johannesburg.

“Traffic is being diverted at the Vaaldraai/Vereeniging interchange to rejoin the N3 northbound again at the Dasville interchange.

“Emergency services are on the scene, but it may be a while before recovery and cleanup operations can be completed. Traffic congestion and delays in this area should be expected for most of the day,” said Thania Dhoogra, operations manager at N3 Toll Concession.

Road users are requested to approach the area with caution.

Factory worker critical after falling into chemical storage tank

Gauteng: At 12H18 Tuesday afternoon, Netcare 911 responded to the case of a burn at a chemical manufacturing plant in Benoni on the East Rand.

Reports allege that a worker slipped and fell into a Nitrogen storage tank.

Co-workers who witnessed the man fall pulled him to safety.

When paramedics arrived on the scene, they found the patient, a 27-year-old male in critical condition with 40% chemical burns from the waist down.

Advanced life support intervention was immediately initiated by emergency care practitioners in an attempt to stabilise him.

Due to the time-sensitive nature of the man’s injuries, a Netcare 911 helicopter air ambulance was activated to airlift the patient to a specialist medical facility for further treatment.

Man left with serious injuries after being stabbed with broken beer bottle

KwaZulu-Natal: At 23H58 Saturday night, Netcare 911 responded to a stabbing at a local tavern on Harley Street in Margate on the South Coast.

Reports indicate that two adult males got into an altercation, resulting in a physical fight breaking out.

During the altercation, a 30-year-old male sustained serious injuries after being stabbed with a broken beer bottle numerous times in the face.

When medics arrived on the scene they found the patient on the floor covered in blood.

He was treated on scene by an advanced life support paramedic and once stabilised was transported to the hospital for further care.

Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the Margate SAPS who were on the scene.
