SADTU concerned about the recent violence at Free State schools
The National Congress of School Governing Bodies has called on the Free State Department of Education to prioritise safety measures in schools after numerous reports of violence. Recently four different violent attacks were reported where three learners were fatally wounded.
National Congress of School Governing Bodies’ Secretary-General, Thabang Motloung says violence at schools is a societal problem that needs urgent attention.
“We call upon the Department of Basic Education in the Free State to appoint security and to involve psychologists to be part of our schools regularly. Not after certain time but if the social workers can attend to schools twice in a month maybe we can resolve this problem,” says Motloung.
Teachers’ union – SADTU provincial secretary, Mokholoane Moloi says they are equally concerned about the recent violence at schools in the Free State.
“These incidents even though they are few but they are worrying to us because if they are not seriously taken and arrest the situation, we might experience incidents of the past, in the province. But we are very concerned about what is currently happening,” Moloi explains.
