Actress Adunni Ade breaks silence on owing late Murphy Afolabi N250, 000
Adunni Ade has finally spoken on the allegation of owing her late colleague and director, Murphy Afolabi, the sum of N250, 000.
Recall that Murphy Afolabi’s burial committee had on Monday, in a trending video, during the 8-day Fidau Prayer held in honour of the late actor in Lagos, called out Adunni for the refund of the money she owed the actor before his death.
In the trending video on social media, the committee said: “Adunni Ade please return the N250,000 that you are owing Late Murphy Afolabi. Reacting to it in a public statement accompanied by her Bank account details, the actress, through her management, debunked the reports of being indebted to late Murphy.
The statement read: “On behalf of popular Nollywood Actor and Content Creator, the unassuming Adunni Adewale, we write to set the record straight regarding a clip making the rounds in which our she was called out by a Muslim Cleric with claims of her owing the late Murphy Afolabi. The allegation is false.
“Sometimes in July 2021, the late Mr. Murphy Afolabi reached out to me, requiring my services for a movie production. He appealed to me stating that it was a self funded production that he couldn’t afford my professional fee, but that he would need my moral support. I asked how many scenes and duration were expected of me on set. He said 10 scenes and that I would spend one day. He offered to fuel my car as an honorarium, which payment of N150,000 was made on 2nd of July 2021.
“Unfortunately, shortly before the commencement of the production, on 11 July 2021, I lost my younger brother and I contacted the actor a few days afterwards for his bank details for refund as I would be travelling to the United States for my brother’s funeral. But he insisted I hold on to the money while he figured out whether to move the shoot forward or contact me for another one.
Mr. Murphy Afolabi contacted me on the 8 of October 2021 and said he wanted to start a new job soon and needed me to play the lead role for four days with the same amount of N150,000 which he had paid in July. And I respectfully declined and requested for his account details and refunded him the N150,000 on the same day. Proof of both payments are attached in this post. Murphy Afolabi died on Sunday, 14th of May, 2023, after falling in his bathroom and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

RIP: Actor Amaechi Mounachi has passed away
Death has struck again in Nollywood as veteran actor, Amaechi Mounachi, has been reported dead. The actor, famous for his comical roles, passed away after a protracted battle with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke.
The tragic news of Muonagor’s death hit the internet on the evening of Sunday, March 24, 2024.
This is coming barely one week after a video circulated online showing the 61-year-old actor lying still in bed, requesting financial aid to support his kidney transplant.
Sitting next to the Nollywood legend was a fellow actor, Kingsley Orji, who pleaded on his behalf.
According to Orji, the kidney disease had caused speech impairment for the ailing actor, and they decided to bring him home from the hospital due to a lack of funds.
Orji had earlier revealed that Muonagor had been battling diabetes and stroke, with the latter causing paralysis in his leg.
In a social media post last November, Muonagor’s cousin, Hon Tony Muonagor, posted a picture of him sitting next to the ailing actor on a hospital bed, stating that he wants the public to know the situation with his relative.
He later went into details of how the Nollywood legend had been battling kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke. He said though Muonagor had been managing his diabetes over the years and living his life, he was undergoing weekly dialysis at the time of the post.
Muonagor had been receiving dialysis and physiotherapy, amongst other treatments, Tony added. The actor joins a list of other Nollywood veterans who died this month. Most notably, John ‘Mr Ibu’ Okafor died on March 2 after a protracted illness that led to the amputation of his leg.
